Singapore’s 52nd National Day is approaching soon and in conjunction with this celebration, various eateries have been coming up with lots of creative new menu items for its citizens. Each new one sounds yummier than the last!

In the latest addition to the various special edition food available, it appears that there is a new type that we’ve never heard of before. This is the Bak Kut Teh Xiao Long Bao that was just recently launched on 29 July by Yum Cha Restaurant, which will be available only until 13 August. Mark your calendar guys!

For the uninitiated, xiao long baos are those delicious steamed dumplings that are traditionally filled with pork and hot, steaming clear broth. Now I feel like eating one! But this year, Yum Cha has combined two classic favourites into one convenient dish!

According to Mothership, the oozing broth is made to mimic the bak kut teh soup as it is reportedly made using pork ribs, pepper, garlic and an assortment of herbs. This flavourful broth is stuffed into the xiao long baos along with its signature minced pork filling. Oohh, sounds yummy!

Since it is SG52 this year, the price is (as you’ve guessed it), S$5.20 (approx. RM16.40) for a basket of three xiao long baos. Now, we are aware that Singapore and Malaysia’s version of bak kut teh have always been different from one another and there’s been much friendly rivalry over which version is the best. #MalaysiaPride VS #SingaporePride

However, this dish looks super tempting and who knows, you may just find a special spot in your heart for Singapore’s version of bak kut teh after trying this!
