JPJ: Heavy Goods Vehicles That Violate The Road Ban This CNY Will Be Seized

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) deputy director-general (Planning and Operations) Aedy Fadly Ramli has warned that errant heavy goods vehicles that violate the road ban enforced in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations will be seized. The ban was introduced to reduce congestion during this festive period and is in force on 20, 21, 24 and 25 January 2023.

According to BERNAMA, Aedy stressed that heavy goods vehicles that are on the road at unauthorised hours will be seized by JPJ under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He asserted,

“JPJ will carry out monitoring with the cooperation of the Malaysian Highway Authority and highway concessionaires on vehicles carrying goods in line with the regulations set by the Ministry of Transport,”

Speaking to reporters during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (20 January 2023), the JPJ deputy director-general also iterated that the department would carry out a thorough investigation on an accident involving a trailer near the exit to Seremban-Port Dickson toll plaza that killed its driver and a passenger on Friday. In the incident, the trailer burst into flames after it crashed into the divider at Km259.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound).
