What an interesting turn of events!

A report by the Malaysian Insight claimed that PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) has agreed to allow former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to head Pakatan Harapan’s pro term committee. But how true is this?

A source revealed to the news portal that the decision was apparently made last night (14th June) during the PKR political bureau meeting.

PKR reportedly came to the decision because they agreed that the former prime minister will increase their chances of claiming the majority votes in the upcoming elections.

The source then stated,

“The political bureau agreed to have Dr Mahathir as PH (Pakatan Harapan) chairman while Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be the president.”

It was also reported that PKR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim will be a PH adviser while Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali will be PH deputy presidents.

The source added that PKR apparently agreed for Dr Mahathir to lead the coalition because they believe it could help garner Malay votes they claim were “monopolised by UMNO all this while.”

“After this, PKR will discuss the decision with the other opposition component parties to obtain their approval. Bersatu has already agreed.”

This supposed new structure will see Anwar Ibrahim as adviser, Dr Mahathir as chairman, and Dr Wan Azizah as president.

However, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil told The Star that the party hasn’t agreed to having the former prime minister as the leader of PH.

“Discussions are ongoing and any official announcements about the structure will be made officially through the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.”

The Pakatan presidential council is due to meet on Friday, so we’ll be hearing an announcement from them sometime the following week.

Whatever the outcome, we’re sure the upcoming election will be very interesting!
