Ulcers have been a common occurrence in our lives. One of the most common things that Asian parents would tell their kids when they have ulcers is that their body is heaty and that they’re not drinking enough water.

That being said, ulcers would usually go away on its own after a few days but if it still persists, it could be a sign to get your health checked. Just recently, Oriental Daily shared an unfortunate and unexpected story of  a 39-year-old woman, Satiah.

Satiah lives in Kuantan and expressed that she’s been having ulcer problems. “Even after going for treatment for close to a year, my ulcers were still there, and I decided to do a checkup”, she added.

Ulcers

In February 2020, Satiah was diagnosed with stage 3 tongue cancer. Due to the pain she has to endure, she is unable to eat drink or sleep. “The most I could sleep is 1 hour and I’d wake up because of the pain after”, she added.

She mentioned that when she visited the doctor, she felt calm and didn’t let the news affect her too much. But as her conditions worsen, she would often think about her children and that would make her sad.

Satiah

“I don’t know how to explain to my kids as they’re young. They keep asking me why I couldn’t talk or eat, and it breaks my heart to see them like that”, she said. After 2 surgeries on her tongue, she went for radiotherapy treatment and unfortunately, that has made her body weaker.

She started getting ulcers again and the medicines that she was asked to take did not help with the ulcers. Her condition then worsened, and she had no choice but to have her tongue amputated and teeth on her lower jaw extracted.

“Doctors will replace my tongue with the skin they’ve taken from my right thigh”, she added. As of now, Satiah is unable to speak and can only communicate with people by writing on a paper or typing on her phone.

Even though she’s going through so much, Satiah has emphasised that she isn’t feeling sorry for herself and is thankful that she has an amazing and supportive husband to help her through. “My husband and kids are my motivation to continue fighting”, she said.

Ulcers may seem like a small matter but if the condition persists, it’s best to get it checked out as soon as you can. Get well soon Satiah, we’re all hoping for your speedy recovery.
