A Thai motorcycle taxi rider has admitted to overcharging a Malaysian tourist as he needs the money to fix his faulty washing machine.

The 52-year-old man charged the tourist 500 baht (RM61.90) after finding the tourist to be stranded merely 2km from their destination.

According to a report by Thaiger, the Hat Yai Municipality Council Suppawit Maneechot has since received a report in regards to the motorcycle taxi rider.

It all started when a car belonging to the Malaysian tourist had been clamped. The tourist wanted to head to the nearest police station to pay the fine to have the vehicle released.

The tourist then flagged down the motorcycle taxi rider, who charged them 500 baht (RM61.90) for a 2km journey, what was supposed to be a 100 baht (RM12.38) trip.

The rider initially denied the tourist’s claimed but eventually admitted to it, causing him to face false statement charges.

He also shared that the Malaysian tourist was his only customer that day and due to his washing machine being in need of repairs, he decided to overcharge the tourist.

He is now facing a fine of up to 5,000 baht (RM619.01).

Stay tuned for more updates.
