Earlier this year, the nation was shocked by a traffic collision case which involved the death of multiple teenagers on basikal lajaks (modified bicycle), and since then, online petitions were launched for the accused, Sam Ke Ting, to be freed.

Following today’s (October 13) case management for the appeal against Sam’s conviction and jail sentence, the Court of Appeal has scheduled March 31, 2023, as the hearing date for the appeal case. The case management was conducted via a video conference on the Zoom application, as reported by Sin Chew.

Both the defence and prosecution teams were instructed to file their written submissions by March 16 next year, and the court has also set one last mention date for the appeal case, which is scheduled on March 17, 2023.

In April this year, 27-year-old clerk Sam Ke Ting, was charged by the Johor Bahru High Court with the offence of reckless driving that caused the death of 8 teenagers on basikal lajaks, which outraged many Malaysians who wanted justice for Sam.

She was initially sentenced to 6 years of prison, a fine of RM6,000, and supposedly having her driving license suspended for 3 years after finishing her sentence.

A week later, she was released on RM10,000 bail and one surety by the Court of Appeal.

We’ll have to wait until the end of March next year and see what fate has in store for Sam. Until then, stay tuned for more updates.
