In recent times, we have seen plenty of cool and interesting looking hotels and hotel concepts in other countries such as Dubai’s US$5 billion Moon Hotel and a 0-star hotel with no walls or ceilings which costs RM1,490 a night in Switzerland.

However, it seems that Malaysia has its fair share of weird and wonderful hotels.

Recently, a TikTok video of what appeared to be a prison themed hotel room in Johor went viral.

In the video which was posted by @amirulfirdaus96, he was seen checking into ‘Hotel Impi Yan’ in Desaru, Johor.

Surprisingly, the room he had managed to book was a room with a bunk bed that was styled like a prison!

It comes with a makeshift prison bars which happens to slide to open up the room and a barbed wire on the top to stop inmates from escaping.

Even the orange prison jumpsuits which criminals wear in prison were provided by the hotel!

A creative way to attract tourists

The video has gone viral on TikTok where netizens expressed their amusement and love for the creative approach of the hotel. It currently sits on over 1.2 million views on the platform.

“First time I’ve heard of a prison where you have to pay to enter.”

“The imagination that the owner has is very different,” said a user.

Another user commented, “First time I’ve seen a prison that has an aircon with a TV.”

Meanwhile, a few users made jokes about the room as well as the features it has.

“Now you can feel what it feels like to be Najib.”

“If you leave the hotel and forget to take off the jumpsuit, the police will automatically be there,” said another.

Not the only theme

However, that’s not all! According to Hotel Impi Yan’s Facebook page, they have multiple rooms, each with their very own customisable theme.

The bunk bed room has the prison theme as we are all familiar with now, whilst the quad bed room has a musical theme.

Meanwhile, the king bed room has 2 themes for you to choose from which is either the luxury or the Japanese theme. On the other hand, the queen bed room has up to 6 themes for you to choose from.

The themes include:

  • Ghost
  • Race car
  • Beach
  • Forest
  • Pirate
  • Sports
