Yesterday, we reported that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as well as his son, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin, had been granted a stay of execution from paying RM1.7 BILLION in overdue taxes.

This was made possible as the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) did not object to their application to suspend the execution.

Since then, LHDN has been trending on Twitter as the people are outraged and are calling out the double standard of the agency for allowing leniency to the former politician and his son, despite them owing BILLIONS, while they’re willing to chase regular folks to the end of the world for the tiniest amounts.

“LHDN, later if the people don’t pay their taxes up until RM1.7 billion, don’t come and claim, yeah? As long as Najib doesn’t pay, I’m not paying.”

Lhdn 4

“LHDN, next time if us regular folks can’t afford to pay, we can apply for stay of execution too right? So we can use this as an example, to stay of execution from paying taxes. THIS IS A GREAT IDEA.”

Considering the fact that RM1.7 billion isn’t exactly a small amount (think of how much easier it would be for kids in Sabah and Sarawak, if that money can be put into building proper roads and bridges for them to get to school), we urge LHDN to act now or provide the same leniency to the people who have to struggle on a daily basis to pay their taxes.

Stay tuned for more updates.
