If you saw videos of the Merdeka parade on Wednesday (August 31), you would know that the crowd was insane!

Excited Malaysians filled every small space they could find to catch a glimpse of the parade after a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic.

So, unsurprisingly, people may lose their friends or family members in the crowd as they joined in on the celebrations.

One Malaysian who got lost was a 6-year-old boy named Fauzan, who got separated from his mother and younger brother in Dataran Merdeka when he got carried away watching the “Didi & Friends” float in the parade.

He was found by a couple of police officers who helped to reunite him with his family, and the entire process was documented on video by BesiHitam Studio on Facebook.

Helping Fauzan reunite with his mother

In the video, the police officers can be seen walking Fauzan to the main stage to make a missing child announcement.

There, one of the emcees patiently asked him for his name, age and parents’ names.

The boy, dressed in a matching blue shirt and cap with a red backpack, looked timid but could still answer the emcee’s questions, except for his dad’s name.

Emcee

Little did the adults know, they were about to uncover Fauzan’s sad story.

As soon as the emcee finished making the missing child announcement, the police officers spotted a man looking their way.

They suspected he could be Fauzan’s father, so they asked the boy if that was his dad.

Fauzan, who had loosened up a little at that point, then said, “My dad has passed.”

The mood immediately turned sombre as the emcee and police officers sympathised with the young boy’s loss.

“We instantly felt like waiting until his mum arrived to confirm whether what he said about his dad was true,” the video caption reads.

True enough, when Fauzan’s mother came to get him, she was accompanied only by her other son, Fauzan’s younger brother.

The mother and son then embraced one another in a heartwarming moment that left netizens in tears.

“I cried along when the kid said that his dad had passed.”

Netizens in the comments felt sorry for Fauzan and expressed their sympathy for him.

“I cried along when the kid said that his dad had passed. We have the same fate, kid,” said a user.

In the closing text of the video, BesiHitam Studio wrote, “Everyone always thinks that the police are fierce and difficult to work with. In reality, they are just like us citizens.”

“Assertive while carrying out their duties, but steadfast when helping the people. Thank you, abang police.”
