Recently, the deaths of 4 mat rempits caused uproar among the people as many believed those participating in the reckless activity are not only endangering themselves but also others on the road.

Following that, the authorities are now making moves towards implementing stricter and harsher punishments for those involved in mat rempit activities.

According to a report by Astro Awani, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is making considerations to impose heavier penalties on these illegal motorcycle racers due to their stubbornness and insistence of turning public roads into racetracks and causing death.

JPJ Deputy Director General (Planning and Operations) Aedy Fadly Ramli shared that this matter will be decided in the near future.

“We have received instructions from the Ministry of Transport to re-examine and re-tighten actions against riders who commit offenses that endanger the safety of the public on the road,”

“Since the story of ‘mat rempits’ is a very hot issue right now, JPJ is investigating it and we will take actions and we will inform you in the near future,” he said.

This is to ensure that mat rempits do not arbitrarily commit offenses when on the road.

Additionally, JPJ also welcomes information from the public in regards to the areas in which mat rempits carry out their illegal races.

“We ask the public to inform us through the traffic complaint channel. We know there are certain hot areas and we are indeed monitoring. JPJ and PDRM are watching them and we will take action,” he explained.

Stay tuned for more updates!
