Most of the participants of the recent Anime Fest in PJ mall had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite characters but 1 of them may soon be in trouble.

Recently, a video that shows a cosplayer walking around with an object that resembles a real weapon has circulated on social media. While he might be enjoying his time during the event and how it may look cool to others, his act has gained the attention of the police.

In the 27-second video, the man can be seen revealing the toy gun that was tucked into his pants, which he later happily and casually brandished while walking around the fest.

Just yesterday evening (18 May), PDRM in Petaling Jaya released a statement via their Facebook page and revealed that they are currently looking for the man with the fake gun in the video. The case is being investigated for the misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.

In the meantime, PDRM is also looking for the individual who was responsible for taking the video.

According to the official portal of PDRM, it is an offence under Section 36, Weapons Act 1960 to import or own a fake or an imitation firearm. If found guilty, a jail time of not more than 1 year or a fine of not more than RM5,000 will be imposed.

It’s definitely not wrong to have fun and dress up as your favourite character but there’s always a limit to that, especially if it concerns the law.
