Yesterday, a physical fight unexpectedly broke out during yesterday’s National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue in front of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Film producer David Teo was picked to ask the Prime Minister a question during the dialogue, when comedian Sulaiman Yassin suddenly walked up and slapped him in the face.

A video of the incident shows the film producer telling the moderator, Rosyam, not to neglect questions from people sitting in the back and only focusing on picking questions from artistes sitting closer to the stage.

Before David could finish his question, Sulaiman slapped him, resulting in a brief scuffle between the two right in front of the Prime Minister and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

The fight was quickly broken up by security and David was taken to the back of the hall.

According to the Malaysian Insight, David explained what transpired from his point of view, saying,

“I was trying to address him in a relaxed way but Rosyam got angry and glared at me.

“I wanted a casual introduction as it was done on the circular stage.”

Shortly after that, Sulaiman walked up to David and slapped him, resulting in the scuffle.

According to Sulaiman, he said that the fight was just a gimmick. However, David denies that it was set up, saying that he didn’t even know the comedian and was shocked at his reaction.

Weirdly enough, according to the New Straits Times, Sulaiman is now saying that he didn’t regret slapping David.

“I don’t think what I did was too extreme. It was done to teach him some manners.”

“I have no regrets as David’s attitude was disrespectful towards the prime minister and (Datuk) Rosyam Nor as the moderator. As a Malaysian, we should by right have manners and respect.”

Hmm… so is it a gimmick or did he really intend to slap David?

Well, regardless of whether or not he was serious, David chose to forgive Sulaiman for his behaviour, saying,

“I was slapped and fell near the Finas director. I don’t know him (Sulaiman) personally and I don’t know what kind of person he is, but I am willing to forgive him.”

So what do you guys think? Did he deserve a slap to the face?
