Innovations in online shopping have allowed us to conveniently shop for pretty much anything in the comforts of our homes.

However, it is worth noting that it has also resulted in an increase in the numbers of online scams as fraudsters look to make a quick buck.

Recently, a Malaysian warned the public to be aware of fake Raya clothes sellers. In a Twitter post, Nur Asmaa said, “Guys, even when buying Raya clothes you have to be careful.

“There are some Raya clothes sellers who are scammers! But I noticed that not a lot of people know of this scam,” she added.

“The best part is that they have thousands of followers and we end up as fools.”

Asmaa went on to share how she experienced it first hand. “An example is this one Instagram shop. As Raya is coming, it somehow came on my IG stories and as I was looking for Raya clothes I gave it a look.

She then came across an item that was considerably cheaper than more well known and reputable sellers. “The items on the known seller would never be less than RM200. While this shop is selling the same one for RM160.”

“In my head I was thinking that maybe the item of clothing has a slight defect. Suddenly I remembered about a case where my sister got scammed by a seller selling jewelry. So then I googled that IG shop.”

Asmaa then came across a TikTok video stating that the IG shop is a scammer. The person in the video claimed that they lost RM640 to the scammer.

She then checked the IG shop again and found that the shop has changed usernames several times. “It originally sold clothes in Indonesian rupiah. I believe that around Raya time, a lot of people will become victims. So be careful guys!”

She even went on to share a few other Instagram accounts of Raya clothes sellers who she believes are scammers. Her tweet which has garnered plenty of attention led to other netizens sharing other shops which have been verified to be scammers.
