11 Things Every Malaysian That Grew Up With Overprotective Parents Will Understand - World Of Buzz

If there’s one thing in the world that will never fade away, it’ll be our parents’ love for us. It doesn’t matter whether we just finished primary school or are going through a midlife crisis, they will always be there for us.

Buttt… we gotta admit, there are times when parents can be a tad overwhelming, especially when they’re being super protective. I’m sure you guys know what I mean.

So here’s the 8 things that only Malaysians who grew up with overprotective parents will understand!

1. Spontaneous plans with your friends are almost always a no go

The standard time to process for an approval from your mom/dad is at least 24 hours prior to your outing. So spontaneous plans? Forget about it.

2. They ask who you’re going out with and INSISTS on hearing names

So, you spell out their names one by one to your mom or dad. The funny thing is – they don’t even know any of them!

But still, they’d be like…

3. And while mentioning names, if they hear a friend of the opposite sex…

They bombard you with so many questions, do a ‘background check’ and often ‘jokingly’ ask you, “Your boyfriend/girlfriend ah?”

But deep inside, we all know they are dead serious because almost no Asian parent will allow their kids to date until they are at least 40 years old. I joke, but you know what I mean T_T

4. CONSTANTLY reminding you things for the 1003rd time

“Don’t talk to strangers”, “Never give out personal information when somebody asks”, “Do not to accept drinks from strangers because you might get drugged”, “Put your backpack under the passenger seat when you’re driving” etc etc.

5. Any activity that sounds remotely adventurous is considered a suicide mission

But if you ‘die die’ must go, they will start telling you all the stories they’ve heard from their aunty/uncle friends or even outlandish things that will never happen.

“Ah boy, don’t go to the beach, it’s raining season now, later tsunami come how?”

6. Being an extra good kid to increase your chances of parents saying ‘yes’

You make sure to be on your best behaviour, clean the room, help mom with the cooking, have a fun conversation with them etc… and then when they are in a good mood, you finally drop the question: “can I go out with my friends tomorrow?”

Admit it. Most of us had our very own strategies.

7. Checking your phone and realising you have at least 3 missed calls from mom/dad

Overprotective parents always need to know where you are and what you’re up to at the randomest times. Worst thing is, they don’t call when you’re beside your phone. The ONLY time you decide to store your phone away, there’s already 10 missed calls and 5 text messages.

You instantly know your doom is near.

8. Always asking you to double check if the online payment went through

… and to make sure that there’s no accidental double charge.

Parent be like:

We don’t blame them! Our parents aren’t exactly the most tech savvy. For them, any cashless payment via online or card is witchcraft or black magic. Because it’s not tangible mah!

Since we’re the young and hip generation, we know the security features for card payment nowadays are pretty darn good and more people are ditching the conventional cash-paying method for card payments instead. Because it’s just so convenient!

Just like with Grab, fares can be SECURELY paid via GrabPay (using your debit or credit card!) No more awkwardly handing a RM100 note for a RM3 trip guys!

So, the next time your parents are nagging you all over about using an online payment for Grab, tell them how it is actually secured by their award-winning fraud prevention system. This means that your card transaction experience should be as smooth as your Grab Ride.

In fact, to prove just how reliable the GrabPay function is…

Grab will refund 2x the amount charged for every verified dispute!

How does this work?

  1. If there are any verified dispute in charges to your credit/debit card, you will be refunded DOUBLE the amount
  2. The refund will be done in 7 working days
  3. These 2X refund campaign ends on 19 July 2017, so now’s the best time to try it out!

Watch their cool video here:

But if you’re still skeptical about GrabPay, you can always try it out yourself with this latest promotion!

Promo code: SECURE5
Benefits: RM5 off for 5 Grab Rides (except GrabHitch)
Location: Nationwide
Period: 18 May – 30 May 2017

Remember guys, this promo code is only applicable for those who pay through GrabPay with their credit or debit cards. But if you didn’t manage to use the promo code and are still afraid that your transaction isn’t secure with GrabPay, you’re also eligible to be refunded double the amount if there is any dispute as mentioned above! Awesome, right?
