Back then, parents are worried about their kids mixing with the wrong group, consuming bad influences, etc. However, nowadays, parents need to worry about one more thing which is their children contracting Covid-19.

On 1 December, students in a boarding school named Sekolah Seri Puteri in Cyberjaya had contracted the virus. It is said that the number of infected students totals 65 and they are from Form 1 and Form 2, reported Astro Awani. This has caused concerns nationwide as it is related to the education sector.

Taking to Facebook and Twitter, the Minister of Education, Dr Radzi Jidin explained the cause of the spread in a video.

The minister said that a teacher had tested positive for Covid-19 first and when contact tracing was done, another teacher along with six students were positive as well. The six students are currently under school supervision.

Knowing the situation, the State’s Health Department wanted to lessen the number of students in the dormitory, hence they tested more than 200 students on 1 December.

“From the 200 students, 65 were positive and brought to MAEPS for monitoring. The rest of the students will be tested on 2 December.”

The minister mentioned that the ministry will work closely with the Sepang Health Department to make sure that the students in the school are safe.

In a tweet, the Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin has given an update on the number of infected people in the school. He elaborated that a total of 451 people (13 teachers, one officer and 437 students) have been tested and there were 73 positive cases (two teachers and 71 students).

All of the teachers and students, except four are fully vaccinated and 65 of the positive cases have been transferred to MAEPS.

They are all stable in categories 1 and 2A.

242 close contacts are currently quarantined.

We hope that the infected students will be able to recover without any complications. With the new school year approaching, what do you think about fully physical classes? Let us know in the comments.
