It seems that the world-famous ready-to-assemble Swedish furniture company IKEA is not content with just making world-class affordable furnitures but are planning to go into the real estate business too. Well, sort of.

Get this, IKEA Japan is becoming a landlord in Japan by introducing a tiny 10-square-metre or 107 square foot apartment in Tokyo that the company would rent out. Not only will the tiny apartment within Tokyo’s Shinjuku district come equipped with IKEA furnitures and accessories but it would also be rented out at just 99 yen or approximately RM4 per month!

As reported by CNN Business, currently there is only one unit available and the company is now accepting applications from potential tenants who must be over 20 years old. Furthermore, interested applicants have until 3 December 2021 to submit their applications for the tiny apartment.

According to IKEA Japan’s website, the apartment unit is called ‘Tiny Home’ and it will be rented out with a lease up until 15 January 2023. Of course, with just RM4 rent per month, the lucky tenant would still have to pay their own utility bills.

On their website, IKEA Japan said that while ten square metres isn’t much, they have worked hard to make the most of the available space. The company further elaborated,

“One of the keys is to make good use of the vertical space…By capturing the room three-dimensionally, new possibilities open up in a limited space.”
