For the past couple of weeks, Muar has been stricken with flash floods that have caused displacement and suffering to the people living in the area.

So much so that Muar MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, is doing everything he can in order to help them, with no assistance from the government.

He took to his Facebook page to showcase how he has reached out to the government for assistance, but have not received any help. He’s even resorted to housing some of the victims in his own home in Muar.

Syed Saddiq wrote, “I asked, where are the allocations for the Muar Parliament? Now, there is a flooding crisis. I have personally placed victims in my home. MP Pakatan Harapan got RM600,000. Government MPs got RM3.8 million to RM5 million. Muar? RM0.

“This is the people’s money. I want to use it for the people of Muar who are currently in the middle of a flooding crisis. Don’t tell me they won’t even give for that?

He also pin pointed that during the parliamentary session in which he had brought up this issue, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Special Functions and Mersing MP, Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad, had completely shut him down.

Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff had cut him off and said, “We’ll deal with this outside (of parliament),” and “It’s okay, I can handle him (Syed Saddiq),”.

Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, then also shut Syed Saddiq down.

During the session, Syed Saddiq also revealed that he had met with Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, three times in order to seek help for the people of Muar, but received no assistance.

“What is this nonsense?”

It’s truly saddening to see how the people of Muar are suffering.

We genuinely hope that the government steps up and assists those having to face the floods, just as they should.
