As Klang Valley enters Phase two of the National Recovery Plan, many industries can finally operate, with strict SOPs implemented. The National Security Council (MKN) also updated the SOPs for cinema operations (bubble cinema).

According to MKN, those under the age of 17 years old are not allowed to enter movie theatres. The capacity of the cinema is also restricted to 50 per cent, and sanitisation works need to be done at least three times a day.

It is important to note that only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to enter the cinemas. Those whose body temperature is higher than 37.5 degree Celcius or have “high risk” status displayed on their MySejahtera application are also prohibited to enter the movie theatres.

Besides, the audience will have to follow the 1-meter physical distancing in between the seats and wear face masks at all times while watching the movie. “The audience is not allowed to leave the theatre except for emergency needs, to use the toilet or to seek help from the staff,” states MKN.

The cinema operators also need to monitor the compliance of SOPs, as well as be responsible for its staff’s Covid-19 screening expenses. They also need to keep the customers’ information to ease up the tracking process in case of Covid-19 infections.

MKN also encourages those who visit the cinemas to purchase their movie tickets and snacks via online platforms or ticket vending machines to reduce contact. The cinemas are only allowed to operate from 8am to 10pm, so there are no midnight movie slots available.

If you plan to visit the theatres, please make sure that you follow the SOPs all the time and sanitise frequently. Stay safe!
