In just the blink of an eye, we’re at the mid-point of August 2021. Most of this year has passed by all too quickly with many of us having (sadly) celebrated our birthdays and other festivities at home.

There are only two weeks left before our 64th Independence Day, it is without a doubt that we will also be celebrating at home as well. Many Malaysians would want to show their patriotism by erecting the Malaysian flags while others find creative ways to include them in their OOTDs.

However, the Ministry of Unity posted an infographic on Facebook warning Malaysians on how they SHOULDN’T be displaying the Jalur Gemilang for National Day this year.

Jalur Gemilang Attire Not Allowed

In the captions, they say that the Jalur Gemilang symbolises leadership, respect, dignity and citizenship. In order to retain its status, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has set a few rules for the rakyat on how to use the flag.

  1. The use of the flag in clothing should be avoided other than during the National Day Celebration. Its use is only limited to a small time frame.
  2. The flag cannot be used on anything that is deemed degrading towards the flag such as tablecloth, tudung, umbrella, songkok, caps, towels, cushion covers and so on.

Well, now we know! It seems that erecting the flag might be the best way to show your patriotism! When you’re doing so, always remember to put it on the right side up and not upside down!
