The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has banned any interstate movement using the permission letter issued by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) starting today (18 July) to Wednesday (21 July). Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said in a statement released on PDRM’s official Facebook page that the action was taken to prevent irresponsible parties from abusing MITI’s permission letter to cross the state borders to return to their hometowns to celebrate Aidiladha on Tuesday.

“This is due to the increase in the number of vehicles on the highway for the past two days as tracked by the PDRM. Therefore, all roadblocks at the state borders have been instructed to tighten their enforcement. All roadblocks at the state borders are instructed not to accept MITI letters as valid movement approvals for the period starting today until July 21 (Wednesday) for cross-state movements.”

However, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani explained that the ban did not apply to emergency matters with police permission as well as health matters including vaccinations.

We would like to request anyone out there who might have the intention to go back to your hometown this Aidiladha to cancel your trip as the Delta variant is within the community right now. Don’t be the one who hurt your loved ones in your hometown.
