It’s no secret that Zoo Negara has been suffering through the pandemic due to the lack of visitors.

Hence is why it’s great to see how governmental bodies are taking special initiative to ensure the animals housed at Zoo Negara get fed.

The Department of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) took to their Facebook profile to showcase how they had decided to donate tonnes of frozen chickens they had seized at the Kelantan-Thailand border in December, to Zoo Negara in an effort to feed the animals there.

They wrote, “Work visit and delivery of frozen chickens to the national zoo by Tuan Saiful Yazan Bin Alwi, Director General of Quarantine and Inspection.”

As according to The Malaysian Insight, the chickens that were seized and then donated weighed a good eight tonnes and is valued at up to RM66,088.

It’s truly amazing to see how the seized frozen chickens are going to good use as the team and animals at Zoo Negara definitely need all the help they can get throughout this pandemic.

Based on reports by The Sun Daily, the authorities managed to seize over 20 tonnes of smuggled frozen meat in 2020 alone.

Now that Zoo Negara and their animals need our support more than ever, we genuinely hope that more initiatives like these go to feeding these animals.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section.
