If you don’t want to be fined, please take the Chinese New Year SOPs seriously!

The first day of Chinese New Year is believed as the most significant and there are many dos and don’ts that can affect a person’s luck for the rest of the year.

In this case, having police officers showing up at your house for spot checks is definitely not something you would want, especially on the first day of CNY!

In a series of photos shared by Facebook page FTopNews, police officers are seen conducting spot check duties at houses to ensure that the public is strictly complying with the CNY standard operating procedures (SOPs).

According to Sin Chew Daily, they are the police officers from Penang, northeast district and were visiting the residential areas in Jelutong.

The deputy district officer also told Sin Chew Daily that there will be 17 teams of police force working throughout the Chinese New Year for law enforcement, and inspections will also be done in the eight temples at the northeast area of Penang.

In the latest CNY SOPs, reunion dinners are allowed for not more than 15 people and within the same district. Dine-ins at restaurants are also now allowed, with only 2 people per table and with social distancing.

While it may seem “unlucky” for police to visit your houses during this festive season, they are actually just conducting their duties to ensure SOPs compliance and to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Happy Chinese New Year and stay safe!
