“We are not as bad as what the public thinks. Different company works differently. We belong to a friendly and professional type. Being harsh can’t settle the issue at all.”

When the word  “debt collectors” or more famously known as “Ah Longs” are mentioned in Malaysia, the perception we have is instantly negative and our minds get filled with fear. However, this debt collecting company are doing their jobs in a creative way and are set out to eliminate the stereotypes in their field.

Fast Debt Recovery (FDR) Specialist Pte Ltd, a collection agency based in Singapore, decided to do their collection this Chinese New Year in a different manner by getting their team member to dress up as the God of Fortune to visit their debtors!

“Since some debtors do not understand human language, we shall invite Team FDR’s God of Wealth to speak to them and wish them Gong Xi Fa Cai.”

Speaking to World of Buzz, we asked FDR how their debtors responded to the God of Fortune visiting them door to door. They said that every Chinese New Year they usually send oranges to their debtors however this year due to Covid-19, they decided to mix-it-up by dressing up as the God of Fortune which many people would not have the “fortune” of seeing this year.

“Our God of fortune was wished by everyone on the street, some passersby even ask for lottery number.”

They added that debtors and their family members wished their God of Fortune and accepted the oranges and their ang pow with a  lottery slip and their debt collection notice in it.

What are some of the stereotypes in the debt collection field?

Despite the fear that goes behind debt collectors, FDR said they are not as bad as what the public thinks. They even said that different companies work differently and they belong to the friendly, professional type.

They also said that being harsh can’t settle the issue at all. Besides debt collecting, the company also does a lot of charity work and contribute to the community with their donation.

“Sharing is caring. It’s easy to make a buck but it’s a lot tougher to make a difference. We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.”

This isn’t the first time FDR has employed a creative manner to send a message to their debtors. During Christmas last year, their team member dressed up as Santa Claus to visit their debtors.

Well FDR has definitely shed a whole new light on the field. We hope their debtors were amused with the arrival of the God of Fortune. Let us know what you think about this!
