Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein addressed reporters at the Parliament lobby on Monday, stating that Malaysia can take on North Korea if things escalate into a war. Datuk Seri Hishammuddin had this to say on the matter:

We can’t fight a country like North Korea on our own, which focuses so much on its defence assets.”

“But we have our advantages which would allow us to move forward… don’t think we are only dependent on our own assets.”

“That said however, it’s better if we don’t go there.”

According to The Star Online, he went on to cite the disappearance of MH370 as an example of the amount of strong allies Malaysia has, since 26 countries aided with search and rescue efforts.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin also added that the murder of North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un’s half-brother, Kim Jong-Nam at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2) last month, was not as big as other international problems that are currently going on.

This has added on to the recent news surrounding North Korea-Malaysia relations. Earlier last week, tensions seemed to be rising as North Korea banned Malaysians from leaving the country, an action that was countered by Malaysia, which also chose to ban North Koreans from leaving the country as well.

On top of that, a video of Kim Jong-nam’s son confirming that the man who was murdered at KLIA 2 was indeed Kim Jong-nam, also garnered a lot of attention recently.
