Standard operating procedures (SOP) for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations will be finalised some time next week, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

As of now, the National Security Council (MKN) has come up with basic SOPs which includes a cap of 20 people allowed at reunion dinners, no dine-in at restaurants and no interstate travel.

However, when contacted by The Star, Ismail Sabri said that he cannot confirm anything as MKN is still fine-tuning the SOPs before officially announcing them to the public.

He added that the SOPs will be tailored for different areas according to the type of movement control order implemented in the areas at that point in time.

“We are currently in the process of designing and finetuning the SOPs that will be put into place for Chinese New Year celebrations,” he said.

“These SOPs will depend on the situation at that point of time on 12 February, the date of the festival, and as to whether the place in question is under the MCO or conditional MCO or any other (movement restriction).”

Ismail Sabri further explained that the SOPs will adhere strictly to the advice of the Ministry of Health and that MKN will announce them at least one week before the celebrations to give the people ample time to make preparations, according to Oriental Daily.

Meanwhile, decisions on whether MCO will be extended past 4 February will also be announced next week, after Federal Territory Day (1 February).

Stay tuned for more updates on the SOPs for Chinese New Year!
