Authorities are looking for a man who was swept away by the flood after successfully saving his pregnant wife from the strong currents in Kluang, Johor on 2 January.

According to Harian Metro, the 28-year-old man identified as Mohd Rajihan Junaidi, was travelling with his wife from Mersing to Kluang when they arrived at a flooded area at Batu 18 Jalan Kluang-Kahang.

Suddenly, a strong current swept the car to the right side of the road, prompting the man to break the windshield to save his wife. However, he had no time to escape and was swept away by the flood together with the car.

Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Low Hang Seng said the incident was reported by the victim’s wife, Khairunnisa Ibrahim, 24, who was rescued by members of the public at the scene of the incident. A search was then carried out to locate the victim.

After dozens of hours of searching, the Kluang Fire and Rescue Department managed to find the car, but there was no one inside, reported Oriental Daily.

Abdul Rahman, Director of Public Relations of the Johor State Fire and Rescue Bureau, issued a statement saying that the team carried out the operation within 100 meters of Mohd Rajihan’s disappearance and at a 15-foot deep ditch.

However, because the water level is too high, the rescue team needs to use small lifeboats to continue the search for the man, who has been missing for more than 24 hours.
