Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that Malaysia has one of the cheapest internet rates per gigabyte (GB) in the world, on top of having the fastest 5G network in Southeast Asia.

Speaking at Rumah Malaysia in Baku, Azerbaijan, at a reception with the Malaysian Diaspora in the country yesterday (16 November), Fahmi added that in terms of 5G connectivity speed, Malaysia is only second behind South Korea in the Asia-Pacific region.

Malaysia is among the 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet rates per GB

During the reception, the Communications Minister said that the cheap internet rates and fast 5G connectivity reflect the Government’s continued efforts to ensure affordable and inclusive digital connectivity for the rakyat.

BERNAMA quoted Fahmi as saying,

“We are one of the 10 countries where (internet rates) per GB, the cost is about 2 cents… I think we have not really, before this, seen a situation where the Malaysian telcos can sit together at one table and come to some kind of consensus,”
