A Malaysian man in his 20s travelled more than 250 km to meet his girlfriend, only to be caught for khalwat in a hotel room at 10 AM.

Officers from the Johor Religious Department (JAINJ) conducted a check at one of the hotels in Batu Pahat. After five minutes of knocking, the young man finally opened the door. Without hesitation, the JAINJ officers entered the room for further inspection and discovered that the bathroom door was locked from the inside.

After some time, the woman hiding in the bathroom, dressed only in a T-shirt and underwear, came out. One of the female JAINJ officers handed her a pair of pants and instructed her to put them on before the interrogation began.

The woman’s house was only 5km away

The man, who hailed from another state, had taken an express bus and travelled more than 250 km to meet his lover. The woman, also in her 20s, is from Johor. The pair had dinner at a nearby restaurant before returning to the hotel around 11 PM.

The man was scheduled to return home on the same day he was caught. According to a JAINJ spokesperson in a Facebook post, the couple did not leave the room for breakfast, as officers found packs of instant noodles and milk inside.

The young woman revealed that she met the man near his workplace, where she is studying. When asked if they planned to tie the knot, the pair said yes but admitted they were waiting for the right time as the woman is still completing her studies.

JAINJ officers later contacted the woman’s family, whose home was only 5 km from the hotel.

“We called her parents to bail her out. They were shocked and saddened by what happened,” the JAINJ spokesperson said.
