A female sergeant was charged in court today (16 December) on two charges for receiving a bribe amounting to RM3,000 from a suspect in a theft case.

According to Sinar Harian, the accused, Nora Alun, 42, who was on duty at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD), pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Abu Bakar Manat.

Based on the first charge, the accused allegedly agreed to receive the money from Mohd Saiful Jamil in exchange for discontinuing the investigation against the man who was being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

Bribe

She was charged with committing the act at Taufik Restaurant, Inanam, on February 13 and the second charge, she committed the offence of receiving the RM3,000 agreed from the same individual at the Criminal Investigation Department Office, IPD Kota Kinabalu, on February 17.

Both acts are charged under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 which provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000 or whichever is higher if convicted.
