Ever since 15 October 2020, Thailand has declared a state of emergency after thousands of anti-government protesters went on streets demanding greater democracy and lesser power of the monarchy.

According to The Guardian, a spokesperson said that police responded with water cannon jets laced with purple dye, tear gas grenades and pepper spray grenades when protesters were trying to break into a restricted area near the parliament on 17 November 2020.

As a result, the inflatable rubber ducks which were initially taken to the rally as a joke to mock the authorities had been used to protect the protesters.

Netizens, especially supporters from Hong Kong praise Thai protesters’ creativity for using rubber ducks to fight against police violence.

Watch this video by CNA where the rubber ducks made their appearance on the political movement on 17 November 2020.
