Ismail Sabri said this initiative was taken after the Education Minister announced that all schools across the country would be closed and parents who are unable to work remotely would be left with no guardian to take care of their children.

“The government discussed with JPA and came to a decision to extend permission to Work From Home in public sectors and industrial sectors in all states across the country, including states that are not under CMCO like Pahang, Kelantan, and Perlis,” said the Defence Minister. The respective Head of Departments of each workplace will decide who gets to work from home and those working in industry and trade will be alerted by their ministry of the policies that will take effect.

He added that this measure was taken in hopes of lightening the burden parents face in taking care of their children during this time.

However, Ismail Sabri added that this will not apply for those who work in private service sectors such as waitstaff, shopping mall workers, restaurant owners, fishermen, farmers, market vendors and so on. He added that a full list of sectors who are allowed to work from home will be published by MITI for public reference soon.
