Have you ever ordered Milo or Nescafe from a certain place and was sorely disappointed when it arrived?

Well, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has received complaints on how in some restaurants, they serve drinks labelled as Milo or Nescafe. However, when the customer drinks it, they can clearly recognise that the drinks are ‘off-brand’ or ‘low-quality’.

Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman has said in a statement that the usage of ‘off-brand’ or ‘fake’ products while marketing it as a genuine product is against the law, according to the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

The ministry has sent out their personnel under Section 5(1)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 to check 881 food and beverages premises nationwide. Two operators were recorded as they were marketing their beverage as ‘Milo’ but they were using other products, reported Bernama.

The check will be continued to make sure that all restaurants will abide by the rules and produce ethical F&B operators. Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman reminds all F&B operators to abide by Section 5(1)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, where if found guilty a maximum fine of RM250,000 will be imposed.
