Removing face masks is as equally important as putting it on. With millions of face masks being thrown away during Covid-19, this creates a big waste management problem around the world.

Sure most of us are responsible enough to throw our used face masks into the garbage like we’re supposed to, but what happens when some of us who like to remain irresponsible, despite the fact that improper waste management of face masks may lead to the further spread of Covid-19, do not discard used face masks properly?

One possible outcome is that the face masks will be picked up by the abundance of wildlife around us. Like how turtles end up with straws up their noses and now macaques nibbling on used face masks in Genting Sempah.

Shared by @hmetromy, the caption writes, “A macaque was found playing with a face mask left at the side of the road nearby Genting Sempah, Pahang.”

Commenting on the video, netizens pointed out that even macaques know the importance of wearing face masks, more than certain ministers.

Others mentioned how Malaysians should not litter, to begin with.

One netizen even shared the image of what would happen if people continue to litter and not properly discard used face masks.

Well, let’s just say this may not be the best example of what could happen if we litter, but the message is just the same.

We urge members of the public to not litter and be mindful of the environment when discarding rubbish and used face masks.
