Equipped with cement, sand and pebbles that costs about RM1,000; a group of eight residents from Bercham took the initiative to patch up the potholes in their area. They decided to take this challenge after getting tired of waiting for the local authorities to do their part.

As reported by Malay Mail, the group chose to fix the Hala Bercham Timur 11 because the road is full of potholes. A representative, Phuah Tuck Jun said,

“Some of the holes are very deep and if motorists are not careful, they may just fall off from their machine after hitting the hole. Hence the group, consisting of wage earners, took it upon themselves to repair the holes.”

Phuah elaborated that they have asked the authorities to fix the potholes but the problem resurfaces after just a few weeks. They need a permanent solution. All in all, Phuah and his group have managed to patch up potholes on roads equivalent to 25.2 kilometres. Hopefully, the local authorities can come up with a permanent solution so that the residents would not have to take it upon themselves to fix any potholes that resurface in the future.
