A KTM train with ten passengers inside slipped from its tracks near the Genuang station at Segamat, Johor. Fortunately, all the passengers and the train staff escaped without any injuries during the incident that happened around 2.40am today (29 October).

Chief Executive Officer of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), Datuk Ir. Kamarulzaman Zainal, said that the train was on its way from Gemas Station to Johor Bahru Station before slipping at KM 595, approximately 5 kilometres from the Johor Bahru station.

“The slip, however, only involved two carriages and one locomotive.”

He added that the main track is still operational and is not preventing other train services. Kamarulzaman says some delay is expected to happen in the south sector between Gemas and Johor Bahru. This is because all trains passing through the incident area were asked to slow down.

“We have provided alternative vehicles to allow all passengers to continue their journey to Johor Bahru Sentral Station,” he said. Rehabilitation efforts are currently underway at the scene.

The cause of the slip is still being investigated and KTM expressed their deepest apologies towards the passengers who were involved in the incident. This investigation will also involve bodies under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia including the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
