A nine-year-old boy, who has been abused by his stepfather, was rescued by the police at his house in Malacca on Friday (2 October) at 6pm.

According to Harian Metro, the boy who is not in school, is believed to have been beaten by the self-employed 34-year-old man using a rubber hose. Members of the Taman Seruling Jaya, Masjid Taman community reported the case to the police who rushed to the house and managed to save the boy.

Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Arshad Abu said the police received a call from a member of the community claiming that the victim had been beaten by his stepfather.

A team of officers and policemen from the Masjid Tanah Police Station then rushed to the house and managed to save the victim from further abuse.

He added that the victim has been living with the suspect for the past two years. His biological mother lives in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur while his biological father cannot be traced.

“Preliminary investigation found that the victim is believed to have been beaten frequently by the suspect who lived in the house along with other members of his family,” Arshad Abu said.

A photo of the victim shows several scars on his back, believed to be inflicted on him after being beaten with a rubber hose.

Arshad Abu said the victim claimed he was often beaten by his father but was afraid to tell his biological mother or anyone else.

“Police seized a rubber hose and took the victim to Alor Gajah Hospital before being referred to the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” he said, adding that the suspect was then detained at the Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD) lockup before a remand order was applied to assist in the investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury and Section 31 (1) of the Children Act.

Arshad then praised the members of the community for their concern and for helping the boy get rescued.

If you suspect anyone getting abused in your neighbourhood, do not hesitate to contact the police. These victims are helpless and need the help of someone outside their homes.
