The exploits of an Indonesian man in Banyuwangi, East Java in the country caught the attention of netizens recently after he bought a house by paying the downpayment using coins.
Shared by housing company executive @dianajlndr on TikTok, several videos of the man, known as Pak Imam, bringing coins stored inside 4 large water containers to the Kavling Brawijaya Asri housing office in Banyuwangi have gone viral, with 1 of the videos garnering over 7.1 million views as of the time of writing.
Paying for house downpayment using coins saved for 3 years
In the videos, Pak Imam was revealed to be a Martabak Terang Bulan (Indonesian version of Apam Balik) seller in East Java who saved all the coins daily for 3 years.
In the 1st video, Pak Imam can be seen with the 4 water containers filled with coins before they were cut open and laid out on a canvas for counting.
In the overlaid text of the video, @dianajlndr asserted,

Meanwhile, in the 2nd video, the full content of one of the water containers was laid out on a canvas, showing the full extent of the coins stored inside.

Pak Imam managed to save a whopping RM13,536 in coins!
In another TikTok post, @dianajlndr shared that the total amount of coins that Pak Imam saved is a whopping IDR45,980,000 or approximately RM13,536!
The Martabak Terang Bulan seller’s story was further elaborated in another TikTok video, where the water containers filled with coins were shown to be transported to the office by van.
Furthermore, 1 of the water containers had to be carried by 2 men due to how heavy it was!
The video also shows how the coins were counted, as well as a shot of Pak Imam proudly handing over the coins to the Kavling Brawijaya Asri housing executive.
