Disinfecting surfaces and providing hand sanitisers are part of the standard operating procedures (SOP) for restaurants and many public places as it is crucial that the public keep their hands clean to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Failure to do so could land the person in charge a fine of RM1,000.

This was what happened to the person in charge of a public market in Kulim, Kedah who used tap water in replacement of disinfectant. He was fined RM1,000 for not complying with the SOP set by the Ministry of Health.

Kulim District Head Officer, Superintendent Azhar Hashim said that sanitisers were not prepared properly, reported Astro Awani.

“From what we’ve detected, the people from these shops did not prepare sanitisers properly,” he said.

“These steps that we have enforced here are very necessary. I hope that the customers that come to these shops adhere to the SOP and I have noticed that they are wearing their masks accordingly.”

The Ministry of Health also reminded the public in a Facebook post to adhere to the SOPs set in place by the government.
