Foreigner Without Driving Licence Goes Into Opposite Lane & Kills Lady in Penang

A Bangladeshi man who did not have a driving licence killed a Malaysian woman while driving on Jalan Baru, Batu Kawan on the night of 13th July.

Authorities said the 30-year-old man who is a contract-based worker was arrested immediately after the accident.

“In the accident at 10.45pm, a woman died after the motorcycle she was riding collided with the car driven by the foreigner causing her to be thrown off the bridge,” he said in a statement.

“Preliminary investigations found that the accident happened when the man who was traveling from IKEA (in Batu Kawan) to Bukit Tambun was believed to have entered the opposite lane.”

He added that at that moment, the woman riding the motorcycle was passing through the road and collided with the man’s car.

The victim, Siti Khadijah Abdul Razab, 21, who works as a security guard was confirmed dead at the scene.

Chong Chern said the victim’s body was taken to Sungai Bakap Hospital (HSB) for an autopsy while the Bangladeshi man has been remanded for four days for further investigation.

Meanwhile, members of the public who witnessed the accident were asked to come forward to assist in the investigation as there were no closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the scene.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
