If you’re not familiar with the EDM track by Tony Igy “Astronomia” then maybe Coffin Dance song will ring a bell?

Ever since the Ghana Coffin Dancers became an internet sensation following the Covid-19 pandemic that has taken over the world, the song has been heavily associated with the coffin dance.

And of course with the rise in creativity among Malaysians during the movement control order (MCO) recently, someone actually created a Malaysian version of the coffin dance song!

Arranged by Tang Wai Kent, you can hear traditional Malay instruments being used to replicate the song and it actually sounds really good.

Tang used the gamelan, caklempong ensemble, gambus (Malay Lute) and the accordion to piece together the song.

Responding to comments on his video on YouTube, he said that he gets his sounds from EastWest/Quantum Leap RA, a website that provides composers with a variety of rare and unique instruments from Africa, Europe, India, the Americas and Australia, the Far East, and the Middle East and Turkish Empires.

Here is the song:

Netizens were amazed at Tang’s cover of the song and said that it triggered their ‘inner Malaysian’.

“When your inner malaysian wakes up hearing this cover,” one netizen said.

“After hearing this… My Malayness become more brighter than ever!”

“Woah I’m proud to be Malaysian~”

“Omg this is actually a nice cover?”

Here’s the original video. Go show Tang some love!
