According to a report by the Star Online, Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri, a UK-trained surgeon from Petaling Jaya has joined a team at Imperial College London, to develop a vaccine for the deadly virus. Her task is finding suitable volunteers to take part in the vaccine trials conducted at said college, under the department of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).

“The first of the UK vaccine trials has started at the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility led by Dr Katrina Pollock. I’m involved in recruiting healthy volunteers and vaccinating them in the next few weeks, ” she tweeted on Thursday (April 23).

As of now, there has yet to be a vaccine for Covid-19, and experts have noted that it would be one to two years before it actually exists. According to Worldmeters.info, there is currently 2.6 million cases worldwide with over 184,000 deaths.

So let us hope that Dr Amalina’s addition will make the process to attain a vaccine at least a little bit or a lot faster, before those numbers rise even more. Thank you Dr and all the best!
