Our front liners need all the help that they can get and Singapore Airlines (SIA) has decided to provide at least 300 cabin crew staff who are known as “care ambassadors” to assist and fill up the manpower gap at hospitals in Singapore in order to cope with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases there.

As reported by CNA, the company stated that the need for extra manpower is growing as nurses in hospitals are being re-assigned from their original duties to help patients that are infected with the virus. As of now, more than 300 applications for the care ambassadors have been received and the numbers will be reviewed depending on the needs of the hospitals. The airline said,

“To support the nation, Singapore Airlines has opened its call for support to all cabin crew to fill the role of care ambassador. With our crew’s expertise at providing care and world-class service, they are deemed to be a natural fit for this role. The spirit of giving back to the community runs high in the company’s culture, as evident in the numerous ways our crew have risen to the occasion in this trying time.”

The care ambassadors will be supervised by an existing nursing staff and will provide support in the administrative division as well as attend to patients who only need routine medical care which can be done by non-clinical staff.

Kudos to Singapore Airlines for the initiative and hopefully more airlines can emulate it to be done in Malaysia as well as throughout the ASEAN region. Together, let’s fight the pandemic.
