The past few days have been tough for Malaysia, with Covid-19 cases rising by the hundreds each day. As of now, the country has a total of 1,306 cases including 139 recoveries and 10 deaths.

The sudden spike in numbers mostly come from the tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling Mosque that took place in the beginning of March 2020. All those who attended the event are being traced so that they can be tested.

So far, 6,700 samples have been taken from tabligh attendees, and of this number, 743 have tested positive for Covid-19, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press conference on 22nd March.

This means that about one out of 10 who attended the event have tested positive, according to the Malaysian Insight.

According to the Ministry of Health, 62% of the 1,306 cases in Malaysia are from the Sri Petaling cluster.

Numbers are still expected to rise, but we hope that we will soon see a decrease during this movement control order. In the meantime, please stay home and cooperate with the authorities. We’re all in this together!
