A Malaysian student living in Perth, Australia got evicted from her rental house without any prior notice as the landlord feared she might be infected with coronavirus.

According ABC Perth, Helen had been away for a few weeks to visit her family in Malaysia. When she returned to Perth, she found a note taped to the door of her rental property notifying her that the house was in lockdown.

“I feel so sad and confused because I didn’t do anything… why has this happened to me?” the community services student said.

She also found that the landlord had changed the locks to her student accommodation leaving her stranded with no place to stay.

The note read: “Warning no trespassing.”

“Due to you failure to stay in contact with me with world health organisation global emergency over coronavirus you are no longer welcome in this house.”

“Please contact me….as I have attempted many times without success.”

Helen said she tried to reach out to the landlord but failed and had no choice but to stay with a friend.

“We called the police and the police told us they couldn’t do anything about it,” she said.

Additionally, she couldn’t collect her belongings that were still left inside the house.

“I didn’t want to go back to the room to pick them up because I was so scared,” she said.

Helen is currently living with a friend and hoping that action will be taken against this ‘racism’ that has been brought about by the coronavirus.

“I think they need to do something, not send the wrong message to everyone. It’s not fair,” she said.

Just because Malaysia has a few cases of the coronavirus doesn’t mean Malaysians should be treated unfairly. We hope justice is served for Helen.
