Penang folks, you may want to pay extra attention to this piece of information we have in store for you!

From 31st December 2019 onwards, paper-based parking coupons will no longer be available for purchase in Penang, wrote The Star. That said, people who have stocks of paper-based parking coupons will only have up until 31 December 2020 to finish using them.

This important reminder was conveyed by the city councillor, Gooi Seong Kin during the Penang Island City meeting. Nice!

Gooi said,

“All Penang motorists and visitors who drive must download the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) app and start using it. For those who are unwilling or unable to make online transactions to top up credits into the app, the council has appointed five official agents to sell PSP e-coupons other than the council itself.”

“They are 7Eleven, Happy Mart, Yang Agency, PH Ocean and Jefferson. The e-coupons will have codes for users to punch into the app to top up their credits.”

On top of that, Gooi also talked about “standardised chargeable parking hours” which will be valid on all days, except public holidays and Sundays. Here are some important deets that you must know about the chargeable parking hours:

  • Chargeable parking hours: 8am to 6pm
  • Valid days: All days, except public holidays and Sundays.

If you didn’t know, Penang is the first state to “fully implement” smart parking using the app, which is available for download in the Google Play Store/Apple App Store. Penangites now have another thing to brag about.?
