They say mothers are willing to do anything for their children. This mother certainly proves that statement with her determination to put food in her children’s mouths despite her circumstances.

A 31-year-old single mother of three has recently gained the attention of social media users after making headlines for stealing food at a supermarket located in Bandar Iskandar University.

The poor mother said her family of four was surviving solely on her RM500 income after her husband left them two years ago. Her three children, aged 4, 6 and 10 respectively, also have school expenses that need to be taken care of.

She reportedly told Sinar Harian, “I only took food and items for my children at home.”

Social activist, Rohaidatul Asma Jusoh, has been trying to help the family for the past year now. The activist reportedly told Sinar Harian, “I was informed that this woman was in the process of divorce and that she had no other source of income than to take care of her own expenses.”

“Yesterday at 1pm, she sent me a text message saying that she didn’t have any money to buy household items, so she resorted to taking them herself.”

The supermarket has since filed a report against the single mother for stealing. While the case has received no leniency from the management of the store, there are external parties that want to help settle the situation without involving the police.

“The supermarket management still insists on reporting the case, so she is currently under arrest at the police station. Her children are being taken care of by other family members.”

Rohaidatul is working with the Amal Team to ensure that the mother is given some exemption since her children are still so young.

News of the poor single mother first came to light when the Perak Central District Police Chief Superintendent, Barudin Wariso, confirmed the arrest of a woman for stealing RM80 worth of supermarket goods yesterday.

Among the stolen goods recorded were home essentials such as bath soaps, two packs of raw chicken, one cube of chicken bone and black pepper powder. According to the police chief, “The woman did not have any previous criminal records. She will be arranged in the Court of Appeals today under Section 380 of the Penal Code.”

Poor mother. She was only trying to provide for her kids! What do you guys think about this? Let us know in the comments below.
