If your transit is at Hong Kong International Airport or if it’s your next destination, then you have to pay close attention to this piece of information we have in store for you.

Due to the pro-democracy protests that have been going on for some time now, Hong Kong (HK) International Airport has cancelled all flights in and out of HK on 12th August 2019, reported CNN.

However, after the announcement, several flights departed after midnight and the airport spokesperson revealed that the flights may resume at 6 am (HK time) today (13th August 2019).

Nevertheless, the report wrote that the flights were still labelled cancelled on the airport’s website; and according to CNN’s own calculations, more than 200 (outgoing and incoming) flights are cancelled from 7 am until today midnight.

Apparently, nearly 30 protesters who stayed overnight said that their goal is to disrupt all activities in the airport if there were enough protesters joining them. A 23-year-old protester was quoted as saying,

“We stayed here overnight because we want to show people it’s safe (at) the airport. We are expecting more people to join in the afternoon and with enough people, we hope to paralyse the airport once again like we did yesterday.”

If you didn’t know, the protests at the airport started on 2nd August 2019 but during the weekend, the protest crowd was fairly small. Having said that, today (Tuesday) marks the fifth day of the protest in the HK International Airport.

The protesters even sang a rendition of “Do You Hear The People Sing” from the famous musical Les Miserables, which is set during the French Revolution. You can take a look at the video below:
