How could the doctor do this?

An elderly woman died at Wenshui County People’s Hospital in Shanxi province on 15th July due to a doctor’s lack of urgency, according to South China Morning Post.

Kang Jinlian, 84, from Northern China had been suffering from nausea before she was admitted to the hospital at about 9pm the night before. She was then transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the cardiology department after an initial assessment.

Kang and her family were all waiting for the doctor to check on her condition, but suddenly, all the medical staff left the ward and proceeded to another area of the hospital. This was because they were asked to gather to take photos for a brochure.

During this time, Kang’s pain had intensified and her condition got worse by the minute. Kang’s grandson, Wu, said that he and his family tried to alert the doctor four times within a span of 20 minutes, but to no avail.

The following morning, Wu said that his grandmother died, but did not elaborate further.

On Tuesday (23rd July), authorities issued a statement on social media expressing their condolences to the family for Kang’s death. They said they were shocked at how the situation was handled by the hospital staff.

They added that they had “zero tolerance” for such unethical behaviour and that the doctor responsible for the woman’s death had been suspended. Once the full investigation is completed, the results of the inquiry will be made public.

RIP grandma Kang 🙁
