In fact, Indonesia boasts plenty of hidden gems just waiting to be explored. Well, if you’re in the mood of exploring unfamiliar places, then you should definitely keep Lampung, a province on the southern tip of Sumatra neighbouring Jakarta in mind!

Here are 5 amazing things that’ll make Lampung your next vacation destination.

Though secluded, Kiluan Bay is a popular tourist spot in the Lampung province not to be missed! You can get to the bay by hiring a private car from Bandar Lampung (Lampung town). The journey would take roughly 3-4 hours. Once at the bay, you’ll need to get onto a jukung (a small boat) which would take you and up to 4 people to the dolphin sighting grounds and Kiluan Island.

What to expect:

  • The best dolphin sighting spot is a few kilometres from the coast. It’s also recommended that you head out in the morning from 6am – 9am.
  • You’ll be able to spot bottlenose and spinner dolphins as the bay and its surrounding area is the migration route of these species.
  • Beaches around the bay are also nesting grounds for sea turtles namely; the green sea turtle and the hawksbill turtle.
  • You can even hire a guide to take you to Gayau Lagoon, a popular natural swimming spot located behind the hills of Kiluan Bay.

Best time to visit: In the dry season between May and August.

2. Dive into crystal blue waters and immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of Kelapa Island in Kiluan Bay

What to expect:

  • Pristine white-sand beaches perfect for beach bums to laze around.
  • The crystal blue waters are also suitable for snorkeling where you’ll be able to spot coral reefs and other aquatic species.
  • There’s even a secluded lagoon called Dodo lagoon which is another popular swimming spot tucked away in the jungles.

Getting there: Take a bus from Rajabasa Bus Terminal at Bandar Lampung to Way Jepara. Get off Pasar Tridatu and take an ojek to the park’s entrance. Alternatively, it’s a good idea to hire your own private car as the last bus service back to Rajabasa terminal is at 3pm Indonesian time.
