Oh no, this is so sad! 🙁

A young Malaysian skateboarder was recently heavily criticised on social media after performing poorly at the 2018 Asian Games on Wednesday (29 August), as reported by Stadium Astro.

Fatin Syahirah Roszizi, 16, who was one of the Malaysian representatives in the women’s skateboarding category at the 2018 Asian Games alongside Yaziru Amiru Dasyir Zainordin, Ian Nuriman Amri and Christina Lai Grace, had received countless harsh comments on social media after placing last in the competition. After that, netizens were reportedly leaving insulting comments on her Instagram post, saying that she is “a disgrace to the national contingent” and “a waste of time and money”. That’s incredibly mean!

The online abuse had gotten so bad to the point that she was forced to clear her Instagram account, leaving only an apology note on her Instagram story saying, “Sorry, Malaysia”. Hey, it’s the effort that counts!

In an interview with mStar, it was revealed that Fatin had sustained ligament injuries on her left ankle before the competition, which caused her to cut short her training to less than two months.

“I fell and injured my left ankle during a practice in Palembang,” she said.

The lack of training and the extreme nervousness she felt before the competition were the reasons why she failed to perform. Adding to that, the spiteful comments she received online has shattered her spirits completely. Poor girl.

“I feel extremely pressured by the comments.”

However, on the flip side, the local skateboard community has shown Fatin great support, showering her with positive and encouraging comments. Fellow skateboarder Ahmad Fadzil Musa, or better known as Pa’din Musa, posted a message on Instagram saying she had “done well despite her nervousness”.

This is not the first, and certainly won’t be the last case of cyberbullying. It takes a lot of courage for a young 16-year-old girl to take up the responsibility to represent Malaysia in an international game. She deserves more credit than insults!

We sincerely hope Fatin would be able to regain her spirits and strive harder to become the best skateboarder in Malaysia! We are rooting for you girl!
